PORTUGAL MEETING REPORT


COMENIUS 4th MEETING

Comenius Project “Immediate Surroundings”
Project Meeting in Portugalfrom 3rd – 7th October 2011


Report:

The host school - Secundária Cacilhas-Tejo - organized visits related to different periods of the Portuguese historical heritage, in order to allow our partners to experience the country.
The Comenius participants also took part in several other activities within the school for a better understanding of the school reality.
Besides that, students of the partner schools had the opportunity to live with Portuguese families throughout the week.


Project meeting

Monday - 3rd: Project working sessions took place in Almada, with a guided visit to the school facilities. The students attended classes with their Portuguese hosts before an introductory visit to Almada’s riverside and the old part of the city.
In the afternoon, students were able to share presentations about their schools and “daily life” in the auditorium, which was followed by the official welcome with the presence of the School Principal. Afterwards both students and teachers got acquainted with the Portuguese gastronomy and spent some time together, at the school canteen.

Tuesday - 4th and Wednesday 5th:Teachers and students had the opportunity to tour different museums and areas related to the Portuguese culture and history and participate in the programme activities.
Tuesday
Early morning lessons from 8.20 to 10.00 (the students)
Visit to Sintra, a beautiful place which has been considered by UNESCO as world patrimony. After the guided visits to the National Palace of Sintra and the Monserrate Palace and Park as well as the surroundings of Sintra, the participants were able view of the Atlantic ocean (Guincho beach, Cascais) and the Tagus river on the way back to Almada.
Once at school, the teachers had a meeting to discuss further activities of the Project and make some arrangements for the future meetings in Italy and Romania; the students went back home to the host families.
Wednesday
On Wednesday the whole programme was focused on Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal and some of its most representative monuments, such as Belém Towerand Jerónimios Monastery in Belém. Students and teachers were together in the morning till lunch time.
In the afternoon, students had their own programme, either with the host family or with their friends and classmates.
The teachers went to visit St Jorge Castle and the old part of Lisbon as well as downtown. In the evening they went to a typical “Fado house” where they had dinner and listened to Fado (traditional Portuguese song).
Thursday - 6th: Working session started with the students presentations (conclusion of the presentations which started on Monday); It was followed by Romania`s presentation of the main conclusions which resulted from the Questionnaire applied to all the students and teachers that have taken part in this project.
After these presentations students and teachers had a view of the surrounding sights at Capuchos belvedere and were able to appreciate one of the many local beaches.
In the afternoon there was a visit to a Portuguese noble house, dating back to the XVII century - Solar dos Zagallos - where visitors could “dress up” some characters of the time. This activity was planned in cooperation with the Museum staff and the host teachers.
Later on, at school, there was a working session in which teachers agreed on the work to be carried out until the next meeting in Venice, namely:
ü All partners should promote a seminar or conference related to environment issues or preservation of natural /patrimony heritage;
ü All schools should send to the Coordinator of the next host country pictures of that seminar or conference;
ü All partners should prepare presentation of traditions of their city.
In the evening there was a farewell dinner in which students and teachers involved in the Project took part.

Friday – 7th: Four of the partners departed on this day and the others that remained had the opportunity to visit S. Roque Church, a BaroqueMonument in Lisbon. After that activity, some students went back to school to attend classes before returning home to a farewell dinner with the host family.
A group of teachers and students still visited The Parque das Nações in Lisbon, where Expo 98 took place. They visited the Oceanarium and the facilities in the surrounding area.

Meeting in Portugal

We arrived to Lisbon at 13:10 on the 3rd of October.My dear friend Gregorio and Anna were waiting for us at the airport.We went to our hotel,left our luggages and went to the school.

There was an offical welcome for us at the school,students presented their presentations.
Then,we left school with Gregorio.He stayed with us,showed us how to travel inside the city, and escorted us to our hotel.Thanks him a lot.
At the hotel our friends told us that they were told to make a preparation for a picnic and asked us if we wanted to accompany them to shopping.

We met at school and departed from school to Sintra.We visited the villages Palace, had our picnic and were invited by two kind Portuguese Ladies to drink coffee.
In the afternoon we went to Monseratta palace and park.We enjoyed time very much there and felt very relaxed in that green world paradise.

05.10.2011               

We agreed to meet  each other at 8:45.We were going to visit lisbon on that day.We walked along the shore to Discoveries monument,It was built to represent a three sailed ship ready to depart,with important historical figures such as King Manuel I, poet Camoes,Vasco Da Gama,Magellon and several other Portuguese explorers.We then visited Belem Tower,It is Lisbons icon; a symbol of the Age of Discovery.It was the starting point for many of voyages of discovery.  



It was built in the Manueline style.It incorparates many stonework motifs of the Discoveries.
Jeronimos Monastery was our second route.It is the most impressive symbol of Portugalis Power and wealth during the Age of Discovery.It was built to commemorate Vasca Da Gama’s voyage.It is one of the great triumphs of European Gothic.
With much of the design characterized by sculptural details and maritime motifs.
We took the bus downtown.After the bus stopped, we walked too much that Aydın Gumus started to ask for an ambulance or if possible a helicopter.But there wasn’t anthing that we could do for him and he managed to walk up to St.George Castle.It overlooks the city.We climbed the towers and walked along the ramparts for the most breathtaking views of the city,St.Georges Castle can be seen from almost everywhere in the city.



We left the Castle and walked down the streets again,We were going to have our dinner at a Fados house.

Fado is Lisbons’s soulful sound,the countries national musical treasure.
We enjoyed it till 11. o’clock,We left it,and travelled back to Almada by a Ferry.
It was very late and we all were very tired that we fell asleep as soon as we arrived.


6.10.2011

We met at school studied till 10:50 and left to Costa da Caparica by bus.
We had dinner at a restaurant and felt ourselves at home thanks to Rasid an arabic waiter who served us there and made good ikrams to us.

We departed at 14:30 and arrived to Solar das Lagallas,Students had good time there,they informed us about the place through role playing.

 

We went back to school forthe last working session (only teacher)
We met our students at a farewell diner at 21:00.And at the end said goodbye to our friends who will leave the next day.

                                               
7.10.2011

The next day we went to Lisbon in a ferryboat and visited Sau.Rogue Church.The church has the richest interiors.Zach of the Chapels is a masterpiece of Baroque ait.It housed the world’s most expensive Chapel,We had lunch and then took a taxi to the Oceanario de Lisboa,The lisbon Oceanarium has a large collection of marine species about 100 species from around the world are kept in this tank.


And we had come to the End.
Thanks to Anna for staying with us till our last hours and thanks to our Portuguese hosts a lot.It was an unforgettable week in our life Thanks to Portugal.

TURKEY MEETING REPORT


COMENIUS 3rdMEETING

PROJECT MEETING IN TURKEY
At Midyat Anadolu Lisesi

In Midyat, TURKEY
16-20 of May, 2011

Project meeting:

On the 16th of May, the project meeting started with an informal meeting at the hotel with the participant teachers. The students started with joining the classes at Midyat Anadolu Lisesi with their host friends. After all the partner schools arrived in Midyat, all the participant teachers and students took part in the arranged tour of historical Midyat. They had an overview of the culture and daily lives in the city.

On the 17th of May, the formal opening ceremony of the meeting was held in Midyat Anadolu Lisesi. The objectives of the project were referred to once again. The participants enjoyed the mini Türkü (Turkish folk music) concert. The groups presented gifts to each other. All the groups presented their video-taped theatre plays prepared at each school before. All the plays were really very interesting with their unique performance. Then, participants were taken to Hasankeyf, an ancient, historical city.

On the 18th of May, the participants visited beautiful Mardin city where there are hundreds-year-old stone houses, reflecting the lives of the ancient civilizations. The city is very important in that its natural environment has been well protected so far.

On the 19th of May, the Turkish Youth and Sports Day was celebrated. The participant students were told about the importance about the day, about the role of the young for healthy and peaceful future generations. The students had a Turkish lesson where some cultural behaviors were exemplified and some traditional games were played. At school, the participant teachers met to plan what would be done in the next meeting in Portugal. At dinner, certifications were delivered. In the closing ceremony, some cultural souvenirs were presented to the participants and the participants offered their good wishes to eachother. At the end of the ceremony, traditional“Turkish Henna Night” (Kına Gecesi) which is organized in the night before the wedding day, was animated by a group of students and teachers composed of different members of the groups.

On the 20th of May, some of the groups left Midyat and some of them joined the picnic organized especially to experience the very beauty of the nature on the spot. It was helpful to make the students to comprehend or remind once more the importance of protecting the natural areas from the hazards of exogenous factors like human beings.

Throughout the meeting, teachers and students. were able to share experience and ideas about the project, their cultures, daily lives, their own environments and the solutions for common problems.


Decisions:

  • Next project meeting will be held in Portugal at the beginning of October.
  • The fourth meeting will be held in Italy, probably in February 2012.
  • Romania have gathered the questions from each school and have prepared a questionnaire.
  • For Portugal meeting, all schools will prepare powerpoint presentations presenting the school life, daily life and culture of the each partner country.
  • In Portugal meeting, the results of the questionnaires delivered in Turkey will be shared.

SPAIN MEETING REPORT

PROJECT MEETING IN SPAIN

Project meeting:

On the 21st of February, the project meeting started with an informal meeting at the hotel with the participant teachers. The students who had already arrived, attended the lesson at school with their partners. After the meeting, all the teachers and students took part in the arranged tour of Oviedo. They visited the cathedral the old part of the town and had the opportunity to see how daily life goes on in the city.
The teachers continued with another meeting at the hotel after lunch.

On the 22nd of February, there was a formal reception at IES Llanera in which the principal welcomed our guests and students and teachers visited the school.
Afterwards, the first official meeting session was held in our auditorium. We had the chance to get to know the new participants and the students presented the work so far done to the rest of the schools. We all had lunch together at school and , in the afternoon, we visited Gijón, the biggest city in Asturias. Gijón is situated on the coast
On the 23rd of February, the participants took part in the second meeting in which we agreed on the woks to be done until May.
At 11:00 there was a reception at the Town Hall for all the visiting students and teachers.
In the evening the teachers met for a typical dinner in Oviedo.

On the 24th of February, the participants went on a trip to the countryside to the Bear Track, an old mining railway which has been adapted for rural tourism. We also had the opportunity to visit The Bear Museum, in which they explained the fauna of our region to us. We had a walk in the countryside, and we enjoyed a typical Asturian meal. After lunch, our principal handed out the certificates and then we visited the prehistoric museum in Teverga.
On the 25th of February, some of the groups left Asturias and the rest joined the normal activities at school.

Decisions:


  • Next project meeting will be held in Turkey, in May 2011.
  • A play should be prepared for the next meeting (about saving environment).
  • The fourth meeting will be held in Italy, probably in February 2012.
  • The final meeting will be held in Romania in May 2012.

Meeting in Spain

A Visit to Spain
Our first stop was a kebap restaurant in İstanbul. We enjoyed the marvellous büryan kebap.

 
Then we started  sightseeing in Istanbul that was quiet tiring.

At four a.m. we were at the airport to fly to Madrid. We got on bus to g oto Oviedo where the meeting was held. On the way the scenery was fascinating. 
 
On the morning of Monday we met our dear collegaues in the hotel and had a meeting there about the meeting. Then in the afternoon we enjoyed the old town of Oviedo with the guidance of Ana Badia.
 
On the morning of Tuesday we were at school to hold the first project meeting and meet the students and the principal.

On Tuesday afternoon we visited Gijon a city in the very North of Spian.

On Wednesday morning we had another meeting of the Project. We talked about te meeting in Turkey.
 
On Wednesday afternoon we visited the municipality and a castle.
 
On Thursday we enjoyed the excellent countryside and a warm spring day.

On Friday morning we said goodbye to Oviedo and went back to Madrid to take the planet o Istanbul.
